Mount mountable.io on a Mac With Nothing Else to Install

mountable.io is a persistent filesystem for AI agents. On an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26, install the CLI, mount a folder, and let git and your editor work there. Nothing else to install.

Your coding agent on a Mac writes the fix in a local folder. A reviewer who should only read those files gets a copy, or write access to the folder.

mountable.io is a persistent filesystem for AI agents. Mount it on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26. Nothing else to install.

A write the service confirmed is stored. A reviewer mounts the same filesystem read-only.

The CLI uses the NFS client that ships with macOS. There is no macFUSE, no kernel extension and no sudo. Mountpoint for S3 and GCS FUSE run only on Linux, and s3fs on a Mac asks you to install macFUSE first.

Install the CLI and sign in

curl -fsSL https://mountable.io/install.sh | sh
mountable login

Approve the code in the browser. To run a command without a local install, put npx -y mountable-cli or uvx mountable in front of it. If mountable is not on your PATH, the Mac guide shows the one line to add.

Mount the folder

Sign in and create a filesystem in the console. Copy its id from that page. The quickstart shows the step.

Replace the example id below with yours. Create a directory you own. The command stays in the foreground while the folder is mounted.

mkdir -p ~/work
mountable mount k5q2ztr4mvd7wn3xa6jhebcyfu ~/work

Open another terminal. ~/work is the filesystem. Your agent and your editor use it like a local folder.

Let the agent work

Write a file and let git see it.

cd ~/work
printf 'hello from the Mac\n' > note.txt
git init
git add note.txt
git status

On this Mac mount, git clone, commit, gc and fsck work. vim, sed -i and editors' atomic saves do too. The full steps are in the Mac guide.

macOS may write ._ files beside yours. Add ._* to your global gitignore so git does not pick them up.

mkdir -p ~/.config/git && echo '._*' >> ~/.config/git/ignore

Give a reviewer a read-only mount

A reviewer can mount the same filesystem read-only. Run this in its own terminal. Writes in that folder are refused.

mkdir -p ~/review
mountable mount --ro k5q2ztr4mvd7wn3xa6jhebcyfu ~/review

What this covers

This is checked on Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 26, with CLI 0.6.0 or later.

One stream writes about 7 MiB/s.

Read the Mac limits for the operation rate and the other published Mac limits.

Unmount

Press Ctrl-C in the mount's terminal, or run mountable unmount ~/work.
